The Challenge
Calexico Unified School District (CUSD) in Imperial County, California, serves over 8,700 students, 98% of whom identify as Hispanic or Latino. Like many districts in the region, CUSD needed a flexible and engaging way to support students in credit recovery and help them meet graduation requirements—particularly at alternative education sites.
Why Subject.com
To meet this need, CUSD implemented Subject.com at several schools, including Calexico High School, Aurora High School, Community Day School, the Calexico Migrant Program, and the ASSET Program. Students were enrolled in core courses such as Spanish I, English I and II, Biology, Chemistry, Geometry, and Algebra I and II.
Subject’s online platform offered standards-aligned instruction through short-form video lessons that matched students' learning preferences across the CUSD schools. The flexibility of Subject.com allowed students to complete courses at their own pace, making it ideal for credit recovery on personalized schedules..
Student Impact
Students responded positively to the platform's structure and content. The ability to work independently and stay on track toward graduation was especially valuable for students with complex academic paths or those needing to catch up.
Results
Subject's platform gave Calexico Unified the tools to support credit recovery and offer students at risk of not graduating a clear path to complete their requirements and stay on track.
